Build Equinox and Piera Systems Sign Agreement to Deploy Canāree Air Quality Monitors for Healthier Homes

Scottsdale, Arizona – Feb 22, 2022. Piera Systems (“Piera”) is pleased to announce the signing of a reseller agreement with Build Equinox, a leader in fresh air ventilation technology headquartered in Urbana, IL, to market, sell, and distribute the highly accurate Canāree™ family of Air Quality Monitors. Canāree air quality monitors are built using the patented Intelligent Particle Sensor (“IPS”) technology from Piera and they combine ease-of-use and rapid deployment with unparalleled particle measurement and other environmental sensing capabilities.

Build Equinox is the maker of CERV2®, a premium smart ventilation system that provides comprehensive management of indoor air, efficiently and intelligently, to make any home a healthy home.

“Our CERV2 ventilation systems rely on accurate data to keep indoor air healthy at a much higher efficiency than other systems. Piera’s Canāree monitors are exactly what we have been looking for to provide accurate particulate air quality data,” said Ben Newell, President of Build Equinox. “Canāree will help us deliver an even higher quality of service to our customers and taking our industry-leading CERV2 systems to the next level.”

“We are really excited to partner with Build Equinox given their deep expertise and proven track record in managing indoor air quality in a variety of environments across the US and Canada,” said Vin Ratford, CEO of Piera Systems. “Indoor air quality is critical to human health and we are looking forward to deploying this powerful combination of our Canāree monitors with the CERV2 system into healthy homes everywhere”.

Indoor air quality has direct and substantial impacts on human health, from loss of productivity to causing serious diseases including lung cancer, Alzheimer’s, and cardiovascular diseases. The smallest particles, less than 1 micron in size, are the most dangerous as they are readily absorbed into the bloodstream. Canāree monitors are independently certified to accurately detect these sub-micron particles compared to most other monitors that only provide estimates.

“Human health is directly correlated to sub-micron particles and Piera’s sensors and monitors are a game-changer as this allows us to accurately monitor air quality at an unprecedented scale,” noted Ty Newell, VP at Build Equinox and Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. “The only reason submicron particle importance has not been emphasized in the building environment is a lack of cost-effective sensors with the capability to accurately measure submicron particles so the Canāree is what we’ve been waiting for.”

All Canāree monitors can measure accurately from PM0.1 to PM10 and come with a built-in ability to detect vape and smoke events. Air quality can be monitored through Piera’s SenseiAQ software that interfaces to the cloud for data access or can be integrated into existing Building Management or Building Automation Software (BMS/BAS). Canāree monitors are built on IPS technology which are the only low-cost sensors in the world certified by Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) for operation at PM1.0, 2.5, and 10.0. About Piera Systems, Inc.

Piera Systems Inc. is on a mission to make air quality measurement accurate, simple, inexpensive, and pervasive, enabling a major improvement in the health of all humans. Piera has developed a family of ‘Intelligent Particle Sensors’ utilizing a breakthrough custom processor to detect particulate matter (PM), a major component of air pollution. Unlike existing low-cost PM sensors, IPS has superior accuracy over a wider range, including harmful ‘very fine particles’ smaller than 1.0 micron, and reports particle size and count in real-time at low power. IPS is the first software defined PM sensor with up to 7 particle sizes allowing its use in many applications. IPS data is analyzed using AI/ML algorithms to identify and classify pollution sources such as vape, cigarette smoke, cooking, etc. IPS sensors and Canāree air quality monitors answer the question, ‘What’s In Your Air?’

Headquartered in the US, more information on Piera Systems air quality solutions can be found at https://www.pierasystems.com.

About Build Equinox

Build Equinox manufactures the CERV (pronounced “serve”) smart ventilation system. On-board CO2 and VOC sensors combined with heat pump energy recovery and MERV 13 filtration make the CERV the most capable air quality management system for high performance homes far exceeding ventilation standards. Real-time monitoring of the home’s air quality along with temperature and humidity give control and peace of mind to homeowners that their house is being kept healthy and comfortable. Additional features include wireless sensors and ventilation switches, UV light sanitation, and zone dampers. Designed and built in the United States, the CERV is UL Listed.
